Low Voltage Dry Type Transformer (Class H)

Sometime, there is a need to transform low voltage into another low voltage, for example, from 380V. to 200V.  This is necessary when we get machine from Japan and the voltage supply is not available in Thailand.  Sometime, there is a need to have Isolating Transformer to protect the electrical system.  Since these type of transformers are “Low Voltage”, there is no need to have the winding to be cast in Resin.  This type of “Low Voltage Dry type” Transformer uses High temperature insulation to insulate the winding and covered with a special varnish to protect from moisture.

The High temperature insulation material, usually “Class H” insulation (180 deg. C) , is used to make the transformers.  We often called this Dry Type Transformer insulation Class H or “Dry type Class H”. In some special application, insulation material of “Class C”  (220 deg. C) is used.

The Low Voltage Dry type Transformers are very hot due to the high currents go through the winding.  The ventilation of the winding must be good to keep the long life of the transformers.  The winding will be designed such that the hot air will flow out from the windings.

Normally, the Low Voltage Dry Type Transformer  will be small size.  With protective housing for safety, they can be placed near the load (machine that supply to).
